چکیده

results in this study, high resistances were found to nalidixic acid (59.7%) and gentamicin (52.3%) but high susceptibilities were found to ciprofloxacin (59.3%) and ceftriaxone (36.3%). conclusions according to the results obtained in this study ciprofloxacin is an effective antibiotic in e. coli infections. objectives the current study aimed to investigate the resistance of escherichia coli against six antibiotics, in bam. materials and methods this descriptive study was performed on 300 samples with positive cultures of e. coli in 2006-2007 at the central laboratory and the pasteur hospital in bam city. information related to this study was first collected by visiting the above laboratories and completing questionnaires and then recorded in the excel program and analyzed using the spss software and chi-square statistical method. background antibiotics and corresponding resistance genes and resistant bacteria have been considered as emerging pollutants worldwide. excessive and incorrect use of antimicrobials in human and veterinary medicine, as well as their metaphylactic application in livestock are considered to be key aspects of this current situation.

BAM: Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli

Escherichia coli is one of the predominant species of facultative anaerobes in the human gut and usually harmless to the host; however, a group of pathogenic E. coli has emerged that causes diarrheal disease in humans. Referred to as Diarrheagenic E. coli (28) or commonly as pathogenic E. coli, these groups are classified based on their unique virulence factors and can only be identified by the...

Isolation of lytic bacteriophages against pathogenic Escherichia coli strains in poultry in the northwest of Iran

In this study, 90 internal organ samples of poultry with symptoms of colibacillosis were obtained from Maragheh poultry farms in East Azerbaijan, Iran. In total, 70 bacterial isolates were confirmed as Escherichia coli (E. coli) strains using standard biochemical tests, and antibiotic sensitivity was determined by the disk diffusion method. Antibiotics used in this study included ampicillin, pe...

Resistance among Escherichia coli to sulphonamides and other antimicrobials now little used in man.

OBJECTIVES We investigated whether sulphonamide resistance in Escherichia coli remained prevalent in 2004, 9 years since the formal introduction of a UK prescribing restriction on co-trimoxazole. Resistance to other agents no longer in common use was also examined. METHODS Consecutive urinary E. coli isolates were obtained at the diagnostic microbiology laboratory of the Royal London Hospital...

Resistance patterns of Escherichia coli causing urinary tract infection

Background: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most prevalent infectious diseases and Escherichia coli is its common cause. The aim of this study was to assess the resistance patterns of E.coli in urinary tract infections and to determine the susceptibility of E.coli to commonly used antimicrobials and also to evaluate the options for empirical treatment of UTI. Methods: This stud...

Molecular Characterization and Antimicrobial Resistance of Uropathogenic Escherichia coli

Background:Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are the most common infectious diseases in childhood. The Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) strains account for as much as 80% of UTIs. Objective:From a clinical perspective, it is important to know which virulence factors and antibiotic resistance properties are present in UPEC strains in pediatrics. Therefore, this study was carried out...
